Well, guess what? There’s actually a whole lot of truth to the report that an Acer Android phone will debut later this year.

Acer has officially joined the Open Handset Alliance, and word is, they’ll be coming out with an Android phone in Q4. Details are pretty scarce at the moment as to what their first Android-based handset will feature, but prior reports point to the Acer A1 touchscreen phone as the most likely candidate. Anyway, we’re expecting a few leaks and insider information to surface in the coming months giving us a heads up as to what to expect when its finally unveiled to the public before the year comes to a close.

With Acer finally joining the fold, the Taiwanese company is in good company with the likes of Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC and Sony Ericsson just to name a few of the companies who have already sign-up for the cause.
