LG introduces GW550 Windows Mobile QWERTY smartphone

No, this isn’t a new iteration of the Nokia E71 nor is it even from Nokia. In fact, it’s a new QWERTY-equipped smartphone from LG called the GW550.

It runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard and features a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 3-megapixel camera, quad-band GSM/tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100MHz) connectivity, and a 1300 mAh battery. The similarities between the LG GW550 and the Nokia E71 are pretty obvious. While we’re not quite sure why LG decide to pattern the design of the GW550 after Nokia’s smartphone, it probably has something to do with the E71 being one of the company’s best selling phones last year. By emulating the E71, can the LG GW5500 follow in its successful footsteps? Only time will tell.

Unfortunately, we don’t know when and where this will be released. As such is the case, it’s price is also yet to be determined.

If you think about the technology inside these phones then you will realize $800 isn’t that bad for a computer the size of a wallet. That’s a very steep price tag…six hundred dollars or probably seven hundred dollars would have been a better compromise but eight hundred bucks for an unlocked phone that evidently will be discounted a couple months down the line isn’t worth it. Btw, the new AT&T HTC One X has no removable battery (though the capacity is weaker), no expandable memory, less going for it in terms of functionality /versatility of the software, camera is inferior to that on the SGSIII according to all reviews I’ve seen, etc..
