Samsung E1107 Crest Solar makes Solar-powered charging a reality

Nokia is reportedly dabbling in some weird science trying to cook up a method to provide mobile phone users with an alternative way to charge their handsets by harnessing the power from electromagnetic waves. While that maybe a thing of the future, Samsung’s got an alternative charging solution for the here and now.

It’s a bit simpler using solar energy, and no, it’s not yet the Blue Earth. This is the new Samsung E1107 Crest Solar. It actually looks like the Samsung E1100, but flip it over and you’ll notice that this one packs a full-sized solar panel. As far as charging it using the suns power is concerned, leaving it under the sun for an hour can provide 5-10 minutes of extra talk-time. If you think about the technology inside these phones then you will realize $800 isn’t that bad for a computer the size of a wallet.
