Kodoo Mobile busts out LG 5500 for $175

Taking a break from the influx of high-end phones we’ve been seeing lately, Koodo Mobile is introducing the LG 5500 as part of their line-up. This entry-level flip phone comes with a modest 0.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, speakerphone with voice dial and command functionality, and a decently-sized keypad for easy typing of text messages. It’s retailing for $175 outright purchase or $25 with Tab in use. If the LG 5500 sounds familiar, that’s because Telus started offering this mobile phone in Canada last month.

They are, however, selling it contract-free at a higher cost, $199 to be exact, so Koodo Mobile actually has the upper hand as far as pricing of the LG 5500 is concerned.

If you think about the technology inside these phones then you will realize $800 isn’t that bad for a computer the size of a wallet. That’s a very steep price tag…six hundred dollars or probably seven hundred dollars would have been a better compromise but eight hundred bucks for an unlocked phone that evidently will be discounted a couple months down the line isn’t worth it. Btw, the new AT&T HTC One X has no removable battery (though the capacity is weaker), no expandable memory, less going for it in terms of functionality /versatility of the software, camera is inferior to that on the SGSIII according to all reviews I’ve seen, etc..
