Nokia working on 12-megapixel phone with Carl Zeiss lens, Optical zoom
Both Sony Ericsson and Samsung have already announced one, and it seems Nokia will follow suite. Not wanting to be outdone by the likes of the Sony Ericsson Satio and Pixon 12, news is that Nokia with the help of Carl Zeiss will be announcing their 12-megapixel handset sometime soon.

This report is based on PhoneReport’s source who disclosed that the Finnish company is indeed eyeing a 12-megapixel camera phone. Apart from the high megapixel camera sensor, an optical zoom, which to date can only be found on several phones including the Nokia N93/93i, Samsung G800 and G810, is also rumored to be part of the package as well. It’s still not certain as to which upcoming Nseries phones will carry this new megapixel camera sensor, but the N98 is a likely candidate which should make a grand debut in next year’s Mobile World Congress in February.
In the overall context of things, this isn’t exactly surprising news considering that this just follows the natural evolution of technology in mobile phones, but nonetheless, this should be good news for Nokia fanatic out there waiting on its next generation imaging device to be announced. If that’s too long a wait for you, you can always just look forward to their recently announced N86 dual-slide 8-megapixel phone. It may not cross the 10-megapixel barrier nor does it come with an optical zoom, but it looks quite impressive nonetheless, and more importantly, should become available in 2009.
