Human Heartbeat to recharge Mobile Phones in the near future
With climate change now more a serious issue than ever before, the mobile phone industry is doing their share to lessen the carbon footprint of their products, and one of the best ways to do this is to offer up alternative ways to charge mobile phones. We’ve seen Samsung’s solar-powered Blue Earth phone, and even heard of Nokia’s plan to use ambient electromagnetic waves for wireless charging. That’s all well and good, but how about harnessing the power of the human heartbeat?

Well, that’s exactly what Sarojini Mahajan, a 15-yr old student at St Marks Senior Secondary School in West Delhi, thought of. In the same way the human pulse is used to power certain wrist watches, the same concept was used in this novel idea. By converting the human heartbeat into an electrical charge via a wristband, this newly sourced energy can then be used to charge a mobile phone without utilizing anything else but the innate power found in the human body. Truly ingenious indeed!
This simple concept may have started out in a relatively unknown school in India, but is now being developed for commercial application by Stanford, one of the world’s leading research universities. Hopefully, it won’t take long though as our planet and the entire world can certainly use something as useful as this to further the green initiative to address global climate change.
