mSpot opens Movie Streaming service for Mobile phones in the US
Want to watch streaming movies on your mobile phone? Live in the US? If the answer to both questions is a resounding yes, then mSpot’s got what you’re looking for.
The relatively young company that prides itself in providing consumers access to a wide variety of multimedia content for their mobile devices has inked a deal with Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile that will allow subscribers from these carriers access to major motion pictures on demand. Paramount Studios, Universal Pictures, and the Weinstein Company are all on-board with mSpot on this with more movie firms expected to join in later on. The good thing here is that it won’t come in an app form. So regardless if you’re using an iPhone 3G S, T-Mobile myTouch 3G or Palm Pre, just as long as you’ve got a decent web browser on your phone, you can access this new service at m.mspot.com. An unlimited data plan is highly recommended as watching movies on the go is one sure fire way to rack up the data mileage on your plan.
Movie rentals are priced at $4.99 per title, and can be accessed for a good 5 days from the day you rented it. Needless to say, this looks like a better alternative to the TiVo for BlackBerry app of RIM if watching movies on your mobile phone is more your cup of tea. mSpot also has an existing agreement with Bell and Telus, but there’s still no word if this new service will cross the border and become available in Canada as well.
