Nokia N86, LG Eve Android phone coming to Rogers; Price reductions and Plan changes in the offing
Don’t be surprised if one day you won’t find the smartphone category over at Rogers as this leaked slide suggests that a rebranding might be in the offing with Webphones as its new title. We’re not too sure though if this is just a marketing ploy for this particular set of handsets or it’ll apply to their entire smartphone line. With that being said, just treat this as a heads up of what might happen down the road.
Now, let’s move on to the more interesting part of this slide, the handsets. The LG Eve (one and the same as the LG GW620)stands out since it’s their newest addition to their Android collection. It boasts of a 3-inch touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, GPS, and will be available for as little as $49.99 on a 3-year contract with a qualifying voice and data plan. Another new phone to look forward to is the Nokia N86. This is the Finnish company’s first 8-megapixel camera phone and comes with a dual-slide mechanism, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, access to the Ovi Store, and 8GB internal memory expandable via microSD card. It will retail for $99.99 on a 3-yr contract sometime next month. $99.99 will also be the new price of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 as well as the white BlackBerry Bold 9000.
There will also be changes in terms of plan inclusions. The Mega Value Combos will be getting unlimited network calling with the inclusion of additional minutes. As far as value add-ons are concerned, the limited texting option will be scrapped and replaced with an unlimited one. MY5 Local will also be upgraded to MY5 Canada Wide. Pricing, fortunately, will still remain the same. For prepaid customers, you can look forward to the availability of the Samsung S366 and the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic on PAYG soon, and the $29 Call, Text, Click and MY5 plans will be lowered to just $25.
On similar note, we’ve now got a tentative release date for the new BlackBerry Bold 9700 set for November 21st. No change as far as its price goes, but it’s being speculated that a price drop might happen soon to match Telus’ which is currently $50 cheaper. This is good news all around folks which will certainly help improve Rogers’ faltering image. Why the sudden change of heart? Well, they’ll probably never admit this, but our guess is that their now shifting gears to become more consumer friendly in light of Bell’s and Telus’ entry in to the HSPA arena. How about you guys?
