SaskTel signs Network Sharing Agreement with Telus, Bell; HSPA network, devices in 2011

While most Telus subscribers across Canada can look forward to the release of the iPhone on November 5th, those residing in Saskatchewan will have to wait a little bit longer for the iPhone and other HSPA devices to become available in their region.

Itق€™s confirmed that the iPhone 3G S will not be available in Saskatchewan this year nor is it likely to happen next year. Residents of Saskatchewan hoping to get a new HSPA device locally will have to be extra patient as 2011 is the tentative date when it might happen in the region. It’s not exactly great news, but good news nonetheless. This is thanks to a new wireless network sharing agreement signed by SaskTel with Telus and Bell that’s slated to begin in mid-2010. Through this new partnership, they hope to bring next generation HSPA and UMTS wireless data services and devices to Saskatchewan residents via SaskTel by 2011.

Here’s what SaskTel CEO and President Robert Watson had to said about their latest venture:

Our agreement with TELUS will maximize our $172 million investment in deploying UMTS/HSPA wireless technologies and will provide our customers increased benefits such as access to Canada’s largest 3G+ network.

It’s definitely a long way to go before 2011, and by then, most of the major carriers in Canada will probably be gearing up for the roll-out of their 4G networks already. Be that as it may, it’s still reassuring to know that SaskTel is dong their part to bring the latest services and devices to their loyal subscribers in the region.
