Toshiba Dynario: Direct Methanol Fuel-Cell for Mobile devices
In a bid to provide consumers with an alternative means to charge their mobile phones and other portable devices, Toshiba has come out with Dynario fuel-cell.

The Dynario is the company’s first direct methanol fuel-cell (DMFC) for mobile devices. It also comes with a dedicated fuel cartridge for easy refueling while on the road. 20 seconds is all it takes to fill up the Dynario’s 14ml tank with a concentrated methanol solution after which it will then be ready to charge any device via a USB connection. A single refill, according to the press release, is good enough to charge two typical mobile phones. Unused power is stored in a lithium-ion battery which makes up the other half of its hybrid structure. For more info on the Dynario, you can read the entire announcement here.
The Dynario will go on sale in Japan beginning on the 29th of this month for Â¥29,800 or $328 greenbacks. If you’d like a set of five additional 50ml fuel cartridges to go along with it, you’ll have to add Â¥3,150 (about $34USD) to the price. Only 3,000 units will initially be made available, and if Toshiba deems it a success, then maybe we’ll get a chance to see the Dynario come stateside. Admittedly, the Dynario is probably a little too troublesome for everyday city folks, but I’m sure campers or those who generally love to rough it will appreciate what Toshiba’s new product has to offer.
