Verizon Motorola Droid now Official, $199.99 (2-yr contract) on November 6

Verizon has just officially announced their very first Android phone, the Motorola Droid.

Most of you who frequent our site probably know this as the Motorola Sholes, but as its debuting on Verizon, it will now be called the Droid. Under the hood, the Droid comes with an Arm Cortex A8 550MHz processor, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, CDMA 800/1900, and EV-DO Rev. A connectivity. It also features a 5-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, Google Maps complete with turn-by-turn voice navigation, Exchange support, and Android 2.0 as its OS. The generously-sized 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive display will be a special treat for touchscreen aficionados, but for those who prefer a more conventional way to enter text, the slide-out QWERTY keypad will come in handy. You can read the full press release here.

Here are a couple of videos courtesy of Engadget showcasing the Verizon Motorola Droid:

The Motorola Droid will retail for just $199.99 (after a $100 mail-in rebate is applied) on a 2-year contract exclusively from Verizon beginning November 6th. The Droid looks like a sure winner for Verizon so we can’t help but wonder, will a Canadian carrier nab the GSM Motorola Sholes to offer up their subscribers in Canada? We certainly hope so.
