Telus to offer up Palm Pre, Pixi smartphone in January 2010
We might have just found the reason for the recent drop of the on-contract retail price (now just $99.95) of the Palm Pre from Bell. Remember our post back in July wherein a particular Bell Strategy document was leaked revealing that the Palm Pre will only be exclusive to Bell for 6 months? Well, it just dawned on us that the 6 month exclusivity coverage is about to be end, in January of next year to be exact. Piecing together the clues in this puzzle, it could be that Bell is trying to move as many Palm Pre units out the door before another carrier begins offering this Palm webOS-enabled smartphone in Canada.
So, who could possibly be this new carrier selling the Palm Pre in Canada come 2010? That’s no one other than Bell’s fellow HSPA+ entrant, Telus. Mobilesyrup reports that aside from the Palm Pixi, Telus will soon be offering up the Palm Pre as well sometime in January. An exact release date or pricing wasn’t revealed, but given that we’re nearing the last stretch of 2009, the necessary info will hopefully surface in the coming weeks.
