Verizon unleashes HTC Droid Eris for only $99 (2-yr contract, $100 MIR)
has just announced the HTC Droid Eris, their second Android phone next to the which they debuted last month.

The HTC Droid Eris features a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, full HTML browser with Flash Lite support, 3.5mm jack, HTC Sense UI, and comes pre-installed with an 8GB microSD card. They didn’t go into detail as to what version of Android version is running on this baby, but a prior suggests that Android 1.5 is its main OS. That’s the real deal breaker in the whole package. Hope is not lost, however, as there is still a chance that could release an Android 2.0 firmware update sometime in the near future. You can read the full press release .
The HTC Droid Eris is now available and retailing for only $99 with a new 2-year contract (after a $100 mail-in rebate is applied) on Verizon. Those who found the Motorola Droid a bit too expensive for their budget now have a more affordable alternative with Verizon’s new Android offering, the HTC Droid Eris.
