ComScore: iPhone surpasses Windows Mobile in October, RIM continues to dominate in the US
You’d think that with the tremendous sales of the iPhone in previous quarters it would be way ahead of Windows Mobile. However, based on comScore’s records, this is actually just the first time Apple’s mobile phone has been able to surpass Windows Mobile devices in the US.

The table above shows figures for February, May, July, and October this year pitting the Apple against RIM, Microsoft, Google, Palm, and Symbian. October (the yellow bar) is clearly the best performing month for all the players concerned, and it’s extra special for Apple as it’s the period when they’ve finally beaten bitter rival Microsoft in the mobile OS wars in the US. Symbian, despite being a leader in the global market, is still having a hard time making an impact in the US market as their just faring slightly better than Google who’s just a newbie in the industry. RIM is definitely way ahead of the pack beating everyone else in each of the months covered by the study.
With more Android phones on the way, we’ve no doubt Google’s figures will be better in 2010 as compared to this year. As far as Apple’s OS marketshare in the US is concerned, we don’t see any reason for iPhone sales to slow down in the immediate future. Sad to say though, we’re not that optimistic about Symbian and Windows Mobile. Nonetheless, given that both operating systems are expected to get an upgrade next year, who knows, maybe that’s what both camps need get consumers back to their respective sides of the fence.
