Public Mobile ready to launch in 1H of 2010

It’s been a while since we last heard any news about Public Mobile. Today, however, we hear that they’re ready to go live in certain parts of Canada in 2010.

Mobilesyrup has, in fact, received an email from them confirming this and it will happen sometime in the first half of next year. Below is a copy of the email sent by Public Mobile:

Q: When will Public Mobile launch?
A: Our original plan was to launch service in late 2009/early 2010. It now looks like we’ll be offering service in the first half of 2010. Last summer’s city strike in Toronto held up the permitting process for building our DAS (distributed antenna system) network. We want to make sure our customers have access to the best possible network technology available. So, rather than building 200 large towers, we’ll be using approximately 1,200 DAS nodes. The benefit to our customers is high quality reception and the ability for the network to handle a high volume of calls at the same time

We were previously expecting them to launch late this year, but obviously that didn’t happen. So, apart from Wind Mobile, we can now also list down Public Mobile as another new carrier to watch out for in 2010.

They’ve already posted on their website that they’ll be offering up a $40 unlimited call and text plan to interested subscribers with the ZTE C78 as their lone mobile phone offering. Will there be more plans in the future? How about phones? These are just some of the questions we’re hoping will be answered once they official launch next year.
