MTS expands CDMA network to cover 8 new Manitoba Communities
MTS has just announced that their CDMA network to cover 8 new Manitoba communities this first half of 2010. Included in the short list are Churchill, Split Lake, Oxford House, Snow Lake, Bisset, Middlebro, Ebb and Flow and Fisher River. The expansion will cost them $2 million and will allow them to provide services to approximately 11,000 people in the concerned areas.

Here’s what MTS President Kelvin Shepherd had to say about their latest investment:
We are excited to expand our mobile wireless services to new areas of our home province. Our wireless network already provides the widest coverage available in Manitoba, with over 97% of the province’s population enjoying cellular coverage. Expanding to eight more communities, including Churchill, is part of our commitment as Manitoba’s leading wireless service provider to continue to invest in our network and services.
In July of last year, MTS entered into an agreement with Rogers to provide HSPA services in the Manitoba area. This is yet to bear fruit as its scheduled to roll-out by the end of 2010, but for the time being, the expansion of their CDMA network should bring glad tidings to those residing in the affected areas.
