FireFox Mobile for Android possibly out later this year
FireFox Mobile is already out in its full commercial version for the Nokia N900, but sadly, it’s yet to be available on other handsets and platform.

That’ll soon change though before 2010 comes to a close as Mozilla VP Jay Sullivan reveals in an interview with TechRadar that they may have an Andoird version ready to roll out later this year. He further shares that Android is actually a ‘great fit’ for FireFox Mobile.
If like us, you’re also wondering why it’s taking so long for FireFox Mobile for Android to be released, here’s his explanation for the delay:
Android has been built on a Java platform, whereas [Firefix Mobile] is based on C and C++ code. Until last year when [the Open Handset Alliance] released the NDK (native development kit) which allowed native code as part of the app, it was simply impossible.
As for Windows Mobile, work on it hasn’t progressed beyond the Alpha stage, and it might actually end just there. With the newly announced Windows Phone 7, Mozilla is now faced with a difficult decision to make on whether to continue the current version they have for Windows Mobile 6.5 or give it up and start working on a fresh one for the new mobile OS.
This latest development will probably disappoint those looking forward to FireFox Mobile on Windows Mobile, but hopefully, the new IE browser debuting on Windows Phone 7 will be good enough that it can be a worthy substitute for the time being.
