CNN: iPhone 4 ‘Antennagate’ tops biggest tech ‘fails’ of 2010
It may already be water under the bridge, but the whole issue concerning the iPhone 4’s signal reception woes has just become the main reason why Apple – or more specifically the iPhone 4 – landed at the top spot of CNN’s biggest tech ‘fails’ for 2010.
While Apple did a very good job in reinventing the iPhone and sprucing it up with new treats, the ‘antennagate’ controversy, unfortunately, became more of the focal point after the iPhone 4 rolled out to the public. It was negative publicity, but publicity nonetheless. As such, this is also one of reasos the iPhone 4 topped another year-ending countdown, the one of Yahoo rounding up the top 10 obsessions of 2010.
Apple issued an official statement citing a faulty firmware as the culprit, but later on offered free bumpers/cases to interested customers which basically contradicts their explanation that it’s software-related.
The ‘antennagate’ issue eventually died down, and as their sales will prove, it hardly affected the latest iPhone’s popularity across the globe. Sure, it would have been better if it never really happened, but for better or worse, it surely helped Apple and the iPhone 4 still be one of the hottest topics even as we bid 2010 goodbye.
