Windows Marketplace: 5,000 apps and counting

Still on the fence on whether to get a Windows Phone 7 handset or not? Is app availability a major concern for you? If so, then maybe this little bit of trivia will help you out.

Windows Marketplace apps

Based on the latest tally of WP7AppList, Microsoft’s Windows Marketplace now has 5000 apps to offer 72% of which are paid (that’s 3,600 if you don’t want to do the math). Most of the paid apps are retailing for just $0.99 and approximately 500 apps selling at $1.99. Category-wise, no surprise here, games make up the majority of apps available for download. 22% are games with tools and entertainment apps in 2nd and 3rd place with 15% and 10% respectively.

5,000 apps may not be much when compared to the giants like of the Apple App Store and Android Market, but still, 5,000 is no small figure. It’s a pretty good start, and with a whole new year ahead of them, I’m sure their app metrics will still drastically improved as the months slowly go by.

So, is 5,000 apps good enough for you or are you still waiting for them to hit the 1 million mark first before you buy your first Windows Phone 7 handset?
