LG Optimus Black gets Announced; Intros power-efficient, bright Nova display

LG has just introduced the latest addition to their growing Optimus series of smartphones, the Optimus Black. This is their slimmest offering to date measuring a mere 9.2mm thin. That’s 0.1mm thinner than the iPhone 4 making this svelte beauty currently the world’s thinnest smartphone.

The LG Optimus Black also intros a new feature – the Nova display. It’s sort of their answer to the Nokia’s ClearBlack Display technology and the growing popularity of Super AMOLED displays. The Nova display “is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility.” A 4-inch display, rear camera (rating still unknown), 2-megapixel front-facing camera, WiFi Direct, 1500 mAh battery, and Android 2.2 complete with Optimus 2.0 UI overlay round up the rest of its specs. A Gingerbread upgrade will be released for the Optimus Black in due time.
Pricing is still a mystery, but it is scheduled to roll out globally during the first half of 2011. Hopefully, Canada is included here. That’s about it for now, but rest assured, we’ll be keeping an eye out for this bad boy. In the meantime, if you want to read the complete press release, you can head on over here.
