Vizio launches VIA Phone, Joins the Android fray

Vizio VIA PhoneVizio, the company best known for LCD TVs, has just made it official. They’re now into the handset biz, and here’s their first offering – the aptly named VIA Phone. This baby features a 4-inch capacitive touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, WiFi (b/g/n), Bluetooth, GPS, HDMI-out, a 1GHz processor, microSD card slot, and just like the newer Android phones, also boasts of a front-facing camera. No word though on what Android version it runs on, but our money’s on Gingerbread. Pricing likewise is yet to be known.

Unique here is a built-in universal remote app that’ll allow users to remotely access their Vizio home theater system and other compatible devices.

Ending on a good note, it will be showcased at CES so we’re pretty sure we’ll be able to piece in the missing parts of this puzzle by week’s end. In the meantime, you can check out the full press release here.
